Take Your Akashic Records Reading with a Grain of Salt

I believe in the power of channeling.

I believe in the power of the Akashic Records as a source for wisdom, guidance, and general goodness.

I also believe that it is possible and entirely probable for some people to become overly reliant on these tools.

In fact, I've been there. I've given my power away to my Akashic Records and have suffered the consequences. I have left communities and friendships where I started to see that the Records and other spiritual tools were being used in borderline harmful ways.

Quite frankly, I've learned the hard way that these tools can be just as harmful as they are beautiful. At points, I've wanted to walk away from these tools completely due to feeling so let down by them.

Yet, at the end of the day, it wasn't the tools that were failing me. I was failing me...by giving my power away to the tools instead of taking responsibility for my life. As a result, I believe one of my missions in this lifetime is to advocate for safe and responsible use of all spiritual tools.

Let's back up for a second though...to truly understand what I'm talking about here, it's important to have an understanding of what channeling and the Akashic Records are.

A Quick Lesson in Spiritual Tools

Channeling - what the heck is it?

When you hear people talking about channeling, they are referencing the ability of a human being to access non-human entities in the spiritual realm. Channelers use their five senses to bring information through from the spiritual realm to the physical realm. Channelers can do this through speaking, automatic writing, and drawing. The entities channeled through can provide information about the past, present, and future beyond our human capacity of understanding. Entities that can be channeled include angels, star beings, ascended masters (e.g. Jesus or Buddha), and deceased humans. Some channelers consistently channel one group or being (Lee Harris, for instance, channels the Z's and Darryl Anka channels Bashar) and other channelers bring through different beings depending on what is needed in the moment.

What are the Akashic Records, then?

The Akashic Records are a very specific type of channeling that involves accessing the energetic library of a person, place, animal, or group of people to gain access to all experiences that person, place, animal, or group have had in this life time, past life times, as well as future opportunities. In Sanskrit, "Akasha" means ether or air; the Akashic Records are typically accessed through a prayer or meditation. I personally use a prayer that I channeled in my own Records to open and close them. The Akashic Records provide very specific, targeted information about the specific Records that the Reader has opened. This allows for the Reader to focus in on one specific person or group of people with more ease. In all honesty, though the Akashic Records are a more targeted form of channeling, I think there is a lot of overlap between channeling in general and accessing the Akasha.

All spiritual tool are accessing energy and the energetic realms, through slightly different approaches. Other tools include, though are not limited to, tarot and oracle cards, candle magic, and reiki.

The Responsibility of Being an Akashic Records Reader

There is a reason why being a psychic is largely considered as one of the least trusted professions out there. Heck, even Hermione Granger distrusts Professor Trelawney's ability to see the future in a crystal ball in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Harry Potter is a world steeped deeply in magic and mysticism. This alone says a lot about our culture's understanding of being able to access and see energy.

Dealing with energy is dealing with the unseen. There's so much you can't prove in the moment when doing any kind of spiritual or energy work. Thus, it's work that can easily be exploited. And it has been. A LOT. There are tons of people out there who are not genuine in this field. I also believe that there are tons of people out there who genuinely believe they have the best interest of others at hand in this work, but who are not quite mentally sound themselves.

I mean, have you seen spiritual Youtube and TikTok? There are tons to people out there who claim to be channeling ascended masters and are genuinely eager to serve, yet some of their "channeling" is flat out bonkers. I find this very concerning, because hurt and broken people do go looking on the internet for answers, and not all of the answers available out there are sound or wise.

Doing this work requires a deep self groundedness and a healthy mind. And so many practitioners out there lack one or both of those qualities. Especially with spirituality blowing up online in the last few years and everyone and their mother wanting to become a tarot reader, this is more true than ever. Granted, I don't think it's wrong that everyone and their mother wants to become a tarot reader. Though, I do believe it requires more discernment on the end of the consumer to be choosy about who they give their attention to.

I believe Akashic Record Readers, and any channeler for that matter, benefits from having a strong, grounded foot in the physical world, alongside their relationship to the metaphysical plane.

I've also found that it is common for people with deeply traumatic pasts to find comfort in spirituality. I mean, scary trauma. Unhealed trauma (even if they claim they've done all the healing work in the world, this Reflector can read between the lines). People who are channeling through the lens of unhealed trauma, even if they are doing so with the best of intentions, are going to be unconsciously channeling through that lens. I have met people who have done years of spiritual healing work who, I have sensed, are still a hot mess inside at some level. Again, Reflector spidey senses at play here.

This doesn't mean you have to be completely healed to be doing this work. I don't think anyone is ever completely healed. Yet, I do think the overall mental health and mindset of a spiritual practitioner (or any practitioner, whether or not they work in the spiritual realm) is seriously underrated. The thing is, this industry is completed unregulated. There is no degree in spirituality and there are no rules and regulations people in this industry need to follow. In one sense, that is freeing, because we get to make our own rules. In another sense, it is concerning, because anyone can start offering spiritual guidance, regardless of their past history and current mental state/frame of mind.

Being a Consumer of Commodified Spirituality

So what to do about this? We are ultimately responsible for ourselves after all, regardless of the crazy things we see happening out in the world at large or on Spiritual TikTok.

If you choose to be a consumer of commodified spirituality, I invite you to be discerning. Massively discerning. Question the channeling you receive - whether it's from a Youtube video or a paid reading. I invite you to take any channeled information that you receive in through your mind and let it absorb into your body before taking any action. If an Akashic Records Reader or channeler tells you to do something that makes you feel uncomfortable, you are under no obligation to do that thing! In the past, I have taken advice from channeled messages that didn't 100% feel right to me. When I look back, I can see how those choices, while useful learning experiences, weren't in my best interest.

This is one of the reasons I love pairing Human Design and the Akashic Records together - trusting your strategy and authority is a beautiful way to decipher whether or not a channeled message is truly worth taking action on.

YOU are in the drivers seat of your life. YOU get to cocreate with the universe.

The Akashic Records and more broader channeling are BEAUTIFUL tools that can support in gaining clarity on challenging situations and next steps to take in life, yet they are meant to be used in tandem with other tools...and with the power of your own critical thinking and inner compass.
